Review of Geotherapy Preface: Profiles of Richard Grantham

This is a review of the preface from our book Geotherapy: Innovative Methods of Soil Fertility Restoration, Carbon Sequestration, and Reversing CO2 Increase. Available from CRC Press and Amazon. This is part of an ongoing series of reviews, beginning with the preface and followed by chapter reviews in the weeks to come. The book Geotherapy: Innovative Methods of Soil Fertility Restoration, Carbon Sequestration, and Reversing CO2 Increase is primarily about the science of geotherapy and its application. It presents the theories behind soil remineralization, biochar, and agroecology, among other concepts. It presents the evidence supporting ...

Rocks to Ash – Exciting Initiative on Mount Cameroon – Part 2

Previously we covered Professor Valentine Nzengung’s remineralization project in Cameroon, where his team is developing an organic fertilizer product (QwikGro) to restore nutrients to the soils. At the end of the last interview, Nzengung mentioned that FESCAM is conducting field trials with the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) to test the effect of QwikGro on banana growth. In this instalment, we will continue with the progress of his latest trip and discuss the impacts of remineralization on local communities in Cameroon.   Remineralization in Cameroon Are the crops greener and healthier? This is the question that FESCAM and ...

Launching Our New Research Database

Remineralize the Earth is proud to announce the launch of our new research database, click here, the only online research database dedicated to soil remineralization. An important means of promoting this mission is to make research relating to soil remineralization as easily accessible as possible to gardeners, farmers, scientists, and policymakers. With the launch of our database, there is now a single, convenient resource that gives the public access to a wealth of academic studies and other articles which demonstrate the benefits of soil remineralization. Our mission is to see the planet Earth rejuvenated with strong, healthy, remineralized ...

Explore Geotherapy with the Remineralize the Earth Geotherapy Blog

Welcome to the Remineralize the Earth’s Geotherapy Blog, a resource of news, reviews, and information about geotherapy. Geotherapy is a down to earth, effective approach to addressing the climate crisis. It emphasizes addressing the source of the problem, and it focuses on existing techniques that have already been shown to work. This blog is a companion to, and extension of, the book Geotherapy: Innovative Methods of Soil Fertility Restoration, Carbon Sequestration, and Reversing CO2 Increase (edited by Thomas J. Goreau, Ronal W. Larson, and Joanna Campe; published by CRC Press), which details ways that healthy soil can serve as a key ...

Of Mars and Minerals

In “The Martian,” Mark Watney uses the Martian soil to grow potatoes in the controlled environment of the “Hab.” In reality, the soil on Mars actually does have the nutrients plants would need to survive on Mars! There may not be the right amount of nutrients depending on where astronauts land on the Red Planet, so fertilizers may need to be added to the soil. Gary Jordan, NASA Johnson Space Center (more…)

TJ Environmental Impact Club Creates New Remineralization Committee

Earlier this year, Ray Liu, our volunteer webmaster who has been working with us for two and a half years, founded a Remineralization Committee at his high school's Environmental Impact Club in an effort to further promote research and publicity of remineralization. (more…)

Rocks to Ash – Exciting Initiative on Mount Cameroon – Part 1

Creating a soil amendment that provides essential nutrients for crop growth is critical to combating climate change and increasing food security in Cameroon. This is essentially what Valentine Nzengung, professor in the department of Geology at the University of Georgia and president of Food and Energy Security Cameroon (FESCAM), is studying. FESCAM is developing a product - QwikGro - that will revitalize soil productivity and soil health in Cameroon and elsewhere. Dr. Nzengung describes FESCAM as “a non-profit corporation based in the US with the mission of developing sustainable solutions for meeting food and energy security challenges in ...

Thomas Goreau – The Down-to-Earth Solution to Global Warming: How Soil Carbon Sequestration Works

Biogeochemist, restoration ecologist, climate scientist, and reef restoration expert Tom Goreau is passionate about soils as the primary way to address global warming at this late date, given that reducing emissions alone cannot prevent dangerous climate change unless natural carbon sinks are significantly increased. He’ll explain the basics of soil carbon and how healthy water cycles can cool the earth. From Biodiversity for a Livable Climate conference: "Restoring Ecosystems to Reverse Global Warming" Saturday November 22nd, 2014
