Enhanced Weathering Alliance and Carbon Business Council Join Forces
The Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA) and the Carbon Business Council (CO2BC) are joining forces to streamline collaboration, reduce administrative burden, and keep participation affordable for early-stage companies. The goal of the move is to support shared efforts on policy, registries, data transparency, and commercial challenges, allowing enhanced rock weathering (ERW) stakeholders to stay informed and connected as the industry grows.
“CO2BC is a coalition with more than 100 carbon removal companies, and they have a team in place to support EWA on policy, communications, and operations,” said Adam Wolf, co-founder of Eion and EWA, in a letter supported by Ben Rubin, executive director and co-founder of CO2BC. The restructuring of these organizations facilitates the ERW industry’s growth beyond the European Union’s Carbon Removal Certification Framework.
EWA brings together leading companies focused on scaling enhanced weathering technologies for lasting CO2 removal, with an emphasis on improving EU policy. CO2BC is a coalition of carbon removal companies and civil society organizations whose mission is to advance the responsible growth of carbon management to help reverse climate change.
Stakeholders are invited to join CO2BC, where EWA will now operate as a dedicated support for the ERW community. Wolf added: “This move reflects CO2BC’s plans to serve as a tech-neutral coalition that advances carbon removal overall, while also having verticals to advance the needs of specific pathways, like enhanced weathering.”
ERW has seen massive visibility increases since proponents presented to the European Commission in Brussels. They have secured substantial commercial contracts, major funding rounds, X-Prizes, innovative commercial pathways, advances in measurement, reporting, and verification science, and broader stakeholder engagement. By joining forces, EWA and CO2BC aim to build momentum while easing operational demands on early-stage innovators.
Going forward, CO2BC will manage communications, coordinate meetings, and track policy developments on behalf of EWA members, serving as a central hub for industry coordination. The goal is to stay on top of key issues without overburdening participants. For many already involved with CO2BC, the transition will offer added value through enhanced support for enhanced weathering companies.
